The DH.103 Hornet was De Haviland's Ultimate Piston Engined Fighter further exploiting the wooden construction of the classic Mosquito. The prototype Hornet first flew in 1944 and entered service with the RAF in 1946. and the various versions were used in the UK, Germany and as a strike aircraft in the Far East..
The DH.103 Hornet also served with the Royal Navy (known as the Sea Hornet) in the carrier born fighter and photo reconnaissance roles .
All Hornets were withdrawn from service by 1956
